Village Planning
Purpose
Village Planning relates to the planning of relatively small settlements (say up to 12,000 population), normally surrounded by countryside. As an illustration, the Rural White Paper (DETR & MAFF, 2000) noted that there are “over 1,000 towns in England with populations between 2,000 and 20,000”. So there is a cross-over between village and town planning which this knowledge builder explores.
Benefits
The significance of village planning to planners is substantial – it provides planners and associated professionals and activists with the chance to cooperate, in order to bring about material improvements to individuals, rural communities and their environments.
Audience
Urban and regional planners and all those wishing to build and assess their knowledge of the topic.
Learning method
A thought provoking knowledge builder which examines the context and background of village planning, its relevance to town planning and a wide range of links to relevant websites. Additionally a range of further reading is provided for those who wish to become more versed in the subject. Includes voluntary self assessment for recording continuous professional development (CPD).
