Planning and Community Strategies
Purpose
This module looks at the background to Sustainable Community Strategies (SCSs) and the relationship to the planning system.
Benefits
In principle SCSs are a critical, overarching strategy for planners and planning authorities. In practice, they have not become the coordinating document that was originally envisaged. LDFs have, on the whole, been drawn up with RSSs and PPSs in mind rather than SCSs. Nevertheless, recent changes through LAAs and the Government’s continued commitment mean that planners still need to be aware of them and their significance.
Audience
Urban and regional planners and all those wishing to build and assess their knowledge of the topic.
Learning method
A knowledge builder focusing on the role and importance in the future to planning of community strategies. Additionally a range of further reading and appropriate websites is provided for those who wish to become expert in the subject. Includes voluntary self assessment for recording continuous professional development (CPD).
