Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control
Purpose
This module considers the system of Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) which introduces a more integrated approach to controlling pollution from industrial sources. This approach is intended to improve environmental protection by introducing new measures to reduce or prevent emissions to air, land and water.
Benefits
Spatial planning is concerned with pollution minimisation as part of wider environmental amenity objectives. The EU’s set of common rules in relation to permitting and controlling industrial installations are set out in the IPPC Directive of 1996, with which all EU member states – and therefore local planning authorities – are required to comply.
Audience
Urban and regional planners and all those wishing to build and assess their knowledge of the topic.
Learning method
Knowledge builder offering a well presented overview of the topic and its relevance to planning with links to appropriate on-line sites. Additionally a comprehensive range of further reading is provided for those who wish to become expert in the subject. Includes voluntary self assessment for recording continuous professional development (CPD).
