Environmental Justice in Scotland
Purpose
This module considers the application of principles of environmental justice in Scotland. Environmental justice is becoming increasingly important since it highlights how environmental problems impact differently on different groups, for instance with some aspects of pollution impacting particularly on low-income groups, and therefore intensifying social exclusion.
Benefits
Planners deal in policy and implementation activity, which leads to distributive impacts, and notions of environmental justice can inform policy development and also explain how government policy can link to spatial planning policy.
Audience
Urban and regional planners and all those wishing to build and assess their knowledge of the topic.
Learning method
A knowledge builder which provides a commentary, explanation and context for this increasingly important topic. Additionally a range of further reading and appropriate websites are provided for those who wish to become expert in the subject. Includes voluntary self assessment for recording continuous professional development (CPD).
