Environmental Impact Assessment
Purpose
This module provides information about the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process in relation to developments that are taken forward under town and country planning legislation.
Benefits
EIA is a statutory requirement for certain developments under town and country planning legislation. The Environmental Statement prepared by the developer (or its consultants) as part of the EIA is intended to assist LPAs in determining planning applications. The EIA is intended to inform the design of development proposals before they are submitted to the LPA, with a view to improving their environmental quality and minimising their adverse environmental effects. This should reduce the time that is spent by LPAs in negotiation over applications.
Audience
Urban and regional planners and all those wishing to build and assess their knowledge of the topic.
Learning method
A knowledge builder which provides a detailed overview of the topic for the novice. Additionally a comprehensive range of further reading and related websites is provided for those who wish to become expert in the subject. Includes voluntary self assessment for recording continuous professional development (CPD).
