Elderly People
Purpose
This module focuses on the fact that the population in Britain is ageing as people are living longer and that it is increasingly clear that the planning system has overlooked many needs by assuming that ‘one policy fits all’, and that this must end.
Benefits
Acknowledging that the elderly may have different and distinctive needs is undoubtedly part of the agenda of sensitivity to social diversity which in England first the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, and latterly the Department for Communities and Local Government is promoting. It needs to be part of the agenda for planners too and this action list will help planners achieve this goal.
Audience
Urban and regional planners and all those wishing to build and assess their knowledge of the topic.
Learning method
A detailed action list offering background and context and a series of steps to be taken to ensure planners are aware of and include provisions for the elderly in the drawing up of plans. Additionally a comprehensive range of further reading is provided for those who wish to become expert in the subject. Includes voluntary self assessment for recording continuous professional development (CPD).
