Design and Access Statements
Purpose
This module considers the purpose and role of design and access statements, and how they achieve their objectives and contribute to the planning process, including in terms of effective development management/control.
Benefits
Design and access statements (or the equivalent) present a clear opportunity to encourage inclusive design which in turn can contribute to aims for sustainable development. Consequently, such statements are directly relevant to the role of spatial planning.
Audience
The module is primarily aimed at planning and development professionals working in the public or private sectors whose work involves the writing or consideration of design and access statement, for instance those involved in producing applications for planning permission or those involved in development management/control.

A knowledge builder which covers key terms, context, relevance to planning and an extensive list of associated web references. Additionally a comprehensive range of further reading is provided for those who wish to become expert in the subject. Includes voluntary self assessment for recording continuous professional development (CPD).
