Crime Prevention
Purpose
This action list considers the current emphasis on the importance of spatial planning as a way of integrating interventions and initiatives to make better places. This has implications for making the connection between planning, and especially design, and crime prevention.
Benefits
‘The design of the built environment does impact upon both opportunities for crime and the fear of crime, but it does this in complex ways often involving a range of intervening variables rather than in ways that generate universal rules about what works.’
Audience
Urban and regional planners and all those wishing to build and assess their knowledge of the topic.
Learning method
A detailed action list offering a series of key steps that planners can take in helping to plan to prevent crime. Additionally a comprehensive range of further reading is provided for those who wish to become expert in the subject. Includes voluntary self assessment for recording continuous professional development (CPD).
