Countryside Sports and Recreation
Purpose
This module examines the important role planning plays in balancing the need for sports and recreation facilities that provide valuable local benefits, against the need to sustain fragile areas in terms of protecting amenity, aesthetic and scientific value.
Benefits
The provision of opportunities for sport and leisure in all areas, including the countryside, is an important issue for spatial planning, related for instance to broader quality of life and amenity concerns, as well as to the need to sustain and encourage thriving rural communities. Equally, however, the planning system aims to ensure the protection of particularly fragile vulnerable landscapes and areas.
Audience
Urban and regional planners and all those wishing to build and assess their knowledge of the topic.
Learning method
A knowledge builder which provides a comprehensive overview of the subject for the novice and a range of further reading and web site links for those who wish to become subject experts. Includes voluntary self assessment for recording continuous professional development (CPD).
