Biodiversity
Purpose
This module considers the wise use of land and natural resources as one of the most important influences on the abundance and variety (biodiversity) of animals and plants sharing our environment. The lack of effective land use planning and the poor management of the earth’s natural resources has led to a dramatic decline in biodiversity throughout the world.
Benefits
Decisions made by planners, in every sphere of their work, can influence the conservation and enhancement of the natural world locally, nationally and internationally.
Audience
Urban, rural and regional planners and all those wishing to build and assess their knowledge of the topic.
Learning method
A detailed knowledge builder offering an overview of biodiversity, the planners’ role in influencing it, the legal and regulatory context within which planners must work. Additionally a comprehensive range of further reading is provided for those who wish to become expert in the subject. Includes voluntary self assessment for recording continuous professional development (CPD).
