Affordable Housing
Purpose
This module focuses on the topical issue of housing which is affordable to the majority. The price and availability of housing for people on low incomes is an enduring and primary concern of public policy.
Benefits
The twin objectives of achieving ‘affordable’ and ‘decent’ homes have underpinned public housing policies from the nineteenth century, and an understanding of the topic remains key for planners at the beginning of the twenty-first century.
Audience
Urban and regional planners and all those wishing to build and assess their knowledge of the topic.
Learning method
This knowledge builder provides a detailed summary of the key terms, context and background to affordable housing policy and its relevance to planners. Additionally a comprehensive range of further reading is provided for those who wish to become expert in the subject. Includes voluntary self assessment for recording continuous professional development (CPD).
